Anthony of Padua, O.F.M. (born Fernando Martins de Bulhões; 15 August – 13 June ), also known as Anthony of Lisbon, was a Portuguese Catholic priest and friar of the Franciscan Order.
Though he died in Padua, Italy, he was born and raised in a wealthy family in Lisbon/5. The month of June includes the feast of Saint Anthony of Padua (), a Franciscan friar famous for his eloquent preaching. One story tells how, disgusted by the obduracy of his listeners, Saint Anthony went to the mouth of the Marecchia river and called the fish, who all swam to the surface and formed ranks to hear his sermon.
Life. Vieyra was born in Lisbon to Cristóvão Vieira Ravasco, the son of a mulatto woman, and Maria de Azevedo. In he accompanied his parents to the colony of Brazil, where his father had been posted as a registrar.
He received his education at the Jesuit college at entered the Jesuit novitiate inunder Father Fernão Cardim, and two years later pronounced his first : 6 FebruaryLisbon, Kingdom of Portugal.
St Anthony, seeing the reverence of the fish towards their Creator, rejoiced greatly in spirit, and said with a loud voice: "Blessed be the eternal God; for the fishes of the sea honour him more than men without faith, and animals without reason listen to his word with greater attention than sinful heretics.".
